Who this covers
This policy explains what information MERCHIT collects, why, and the choices you have. It covers sellers who run stores on MERCHIT, shoppers who order from those stores, and drivers who use the MERCHIT driver app.
What we collect
Sellers: your name, phone number or email, and password (stored only in encrypted form), your store's details, products and orders, and records of your plan and payments. Card and wallet details are handled by our payment provider; we never see them.
Shoppers: the name, phone number, delivery address and order details you give a store at checkout, and your account details if you create one with that store.
Drivers: your name and phone number, and your location while you are on a delivery, if you allow it.
Everyone: basic technical information such as device and browser type, IP address and activity logs, which we need to keep MERCHIT working and secure.
How we use it
To run stores and deliver orders, sign you in and confirm your number or email with a code or link, handle billing, answer support requests, prevent fraud and abuse, and improve MERCHIT.
We don't sell personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
The store you order from sees your order details so it can deliver to you, and the driver delivering your order sees what they need to reach you.
We also use trusted service providers to run MERCHIT: hosting and databases, sending sign-in codes by SMS, sending email, and processing payments. They receive only what they need to do that job.
We share information with authorities only when the law requires it.
Sellers and their customers' information
Each seller decides how the customer information their store collects is used, and is responsible for it. MERCHIT stores and processes that information on the seller's behalf.
Cookies and storage on your device
We use cookies to keep you signed in, and your browser's storage to remember things like your cart and language. We don't use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. Orders are kept as business records. When you close your account, we delete or anonymise your information within a reasonable time, unless the law requires us to keep it.
Keeping it safe
Information travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and access to it is limited to the people and systems that need it. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and keep it private.
Your choices
You can see and update most of your information in your dashboard or account. You can also ask us for a copy of your information, or to correct or delete it.
Drivers can turn off location access in their phone's settings at any time, though deliveries need it. Shoppers can ask the store they ordered from, or ask us.
Children
Opening a store on MERCHIT is for people aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
When we update this policy, we change the date at the top. If a change matters, we will tell you in your dashboard or by message.
